Public radio and television provides an extremely important nationwide service that no privately owned or operated radio and television can provide. Through their lack of dependency on advertising dollars, they can report in a more honest, forthright and informative way. It is vitally important that they have the freedom to report, explore and provide in-depth coverage of real facts and issues the most private, for-profit organizations cannot or will not provide.
It would be a terrible loss for the citizens of the United States and a dreadful mark on our country if we were one of the only developed countries in the world not to provide public radio or television.

Our community has come to depend on public TV and NPR radio to provide honest and unbiased news reporting. There are no such things as “versions of the truth” when it comes to broadcasts from public media.

Public media is the true essence of what journalism and freedom of speech are all about – making sure that the public receives unbiased quality reporting on issues on a regular basis. Removing advertising from the picture allows public media to focus solely on seeking truth, accuracy and timeliness in their reports to the public. public media is one the great institutions of our government and should be preserved and enhanced.

I want the Congress to continue to fund the National Public Radio because it is the only radio station which presents a balance news report and various other nationally available programing available to all Americans. I make yearly donations in support of my NPR station and am doing all I can. I need the investment of my government to continue this station.

My parents always watched PBS for news or Masterpiece Theatre. I have enjoyed SO many programs, from nature to mysteries to historical dramas! When our children were young, we couldn’t afford going to movies – but Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers kept the kids happy.
We need quality television for the American public that they don’t have to pay a lot of money for cable. We can count on PBS for both fun and intelligent shows.
…Do you want an intelligent public? Do NOT make cuts in public media! Please.

Particularly in the times we live in, having a a source for information and news that is not beholding to outside sponsors and moneyed interests in invaluable. Public Media is essential in providing the kind of accurate and balanced news and information that is critical for our democracy to function properly. Of all the things my federal tax money is allocated towards, I consider this among the most valuable. A well informed citizenry is right up there with a well educated citizenry. Please don’t compromise funding to Public Media. –

Public Media – Unique source of in-depth reporting

I resolve to protect public media because they are almost the only source of reliable in-depth reporting on issues and events of the day. For example, to get excellent reporting on Science, I watch NOVA. To learn about events in the world, I turn to the News Hour and All Things Considered and the 1A on NPR. These are almost my only sources for authoritative reporting.

I rely on public broadcasting because it is an unbiased source for me to get my news. I always use NPR to double check stories I see from more biased sources. I highly respect NPRs professionalism even when I don’t agree with the individuals being interviewed. In addition, I grew up watching PBS as a good source of educational programming available to someone without cable. Now that I have two young children I will rely on it to help them learn and grow. Having these stations available means that everyone has access to quality information regardless of their income and ability to purchase other entertainment. Not only does this access need to be continued, it should be expanded so we do not end up with uneducated citizens but instead citizens who can participate in all facets of this country to the best of their ability.
